SOLVED Windows XP and eSATA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
I spoke in depth with Western Digital and ASUS yesterday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. In regards to a half an hour with each.
The Western Digital tech insists which i don't have any problem that this is the nature of a drive that large drive initializing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The ASUS tech was more prepared to investigate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He explained that their research lab would put together something much like mine with similar components and try out the configuration,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. He claimed that they will call me towards the end each week with a few information,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Just thought I'd share my lastest info along with you guys,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Appreciate all of your suggestions and advice,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I'll clean out the big event viewer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], reboot, and post the outcomes
It appears that ASUS was right,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They claimed that there would be a problem with the Western Digital drive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I got my replacement drive from Western Digital and the startup is A LOT FASTER now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Seems there was a problem with the eSATA connector about the Western Digital drive in the end,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I've only had the brand new drive installed for a few hours but everything appears to become fine now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. No long boot ups anymore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I'll check back in after a few days to help you to guys know if everything holds up ok,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Appreciate all your suggestions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I believe we've all learned something out of this problem,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
It would appear that ASUS was right,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They claimed that there would be a problem with the Western Digital drive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I received my replacement drive from Western Digital and also the startup is FASTER now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Seems there is an issue with the eSATA connector on the Western Digital drive after all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I've only had the new drive installed for some hours but everything seems to be fine now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. No long boot ups anymore. I'll check back in after a few days to let you guys determine if everything holds up ok,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Appreciate all of your suggestions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. about 22 MB/sec when using USB2 connection.
Speaking of power supplies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I have a Rasurbo DLP-535.
Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I did not "want" for connecting eSATA to USB.
BUT,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while trying to connect it to the of the available connectors that were already built-in (on the back of the mobo),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as I stated before,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], eSATA from JMB 363 just kept crashing my system. BOTH in WinXP AND Vista. Which,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], within the first phase led me to connecting the external HDD to USB,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], simply to test if the drive/enclosure was not faulty. After i realised the drive/enclosure weren't faulty,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I immediately switched to ICH9R SATA Controller.
Anyway,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the key reason why Used to do post on this thread,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ended up being to sugest jerkyjerky to connect his external eSATA drive straight to the onboard ICH9's SATA controller rather than on the external buitl-in e-SATA connector. |
