Precautions and Preparation for that Salar De Uyuni during Rainy Season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
For those who don't know,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Salar De Uyuni may be the world's biggest salt desert and covers 10,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 square-kilometers. During the rainy season it reflects heaven just like a huge mirror,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], giving some pretty cool out-of-this-world images
Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I might pass there during the rainiest month (average 239mm of rain) and temperatures is going to be around 5 - 15C, so not freezing but cold. My cameras and most lenses are weather-sealed however i am concerned about my tripod and me!
An amount be best footwear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? Maybe besides industrial rubber rain-boots I suppose,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I neither own any nor think there are very portable in such remote places. I'm going to be restricted to one backpack and camera bag which are expected to be very full already,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Rinse your tripod with fresh water soon after it is from brine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], do not let it dry with salt on it. Take special care about the bolts. If you don't wish to risk it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], acquire some bits of plastic garden hose that is big enough to accommodate your tripod's legs and after sealing one end (melt or use epoxy putty) slip these on.
For footwear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if the weather was hot,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would suggest a set of slippers, consider it would be cold,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a set of lightweight and cheap plastic rain boots will do just fine.
I'd don't use anything but the tripod in the salt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], rinse it off with water that is clean when you are accomplished for the day - and when you get home give a good thorough cleaning ala this link.
I don't know an exact measurement about the expected depth of water you'll be dealing with,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but all the content I discovered online seemed to suggest water depth of only a few inches or so. Maybe it's worse during this month you speak of,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however i can not say. Take a look at this picture for example. |
