Juvenile offender on the run in WA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
A 17-year-old offender with a long criminal history is on the run after escaping a Perth hospital while restrained and under guard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
A West Australian Department of Corrective Services spokeswoman said the juvenile, who cannot be named,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was a maximum security inmate at the Banksia Hill juvenile detention centre.
He has outstanding court matters for a range of offences including assaulting a public officer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wilful and unlawful damage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], reckless driving,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stealing and failure to report a traffic accident.
WA Corrective Services Commissioner Ian Johnson said the teenager escaped from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital about 5,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].40pm (WST) Wednesday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
He was recovering from an operation on an infected arm after being admitted to the hospital last Friday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"He broke a window during his escape from the hospital and we think he may have committed some subsequent offences thereafter," Mr Johnson said.
"A vehicle was taken from nearby,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
The circumstances surrounding his escape are being investigated by the corrective services professional standards division,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"Not only was he under guard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he was also under restraint . the question I've been asking this morning is how the bloody hell did he escape?" Mr Johnson said.
"I want to know what happened,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"Unless this guy is Houdini,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], something has gone wrong somewhere."
The public has been warned not to approach the teenager,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who is described as Aboriginal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 170cm tall and 54kg.
He has a scar on his inner right forearm from surgery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Mr Johnson said he is potentially dangerous and was dressed in detention clothing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including a grey,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], short sleeved polo shirt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], black shorts and blue sneakers.
