Call for witnesses over three violent hotel robberies in 12 hours
Mr Horne raised concerns after three hotel robberies overnight, including one where a hotel manager was bashed on the head with a cricket bat at Torrensville just hours after another hotel was robbed by a man with a shotgun.
The first robbery happened at Hackham,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where a man armed with a knife robbed the Aussie Inn on Main South Rd, just after 10pm on Monday.
Organised Crime Branch Detective Inspector Phil Newitt said police were investigating links to an incident at the same hotel where a man of similar description approached the gaming room, about 1.35am on Sunday, but was denied entry by a staff member who locked the door.
DetInsp Newitt said people caught up in robberies should try to remain calm, comply with demands and speak only when spoken to.
"There definitely been a spate of robberies over the past six to eight weeks. We are very concerned, especially when a firearm is used," he said.
This is despite new police figures today revealing all robberies dropped by 11 per cent in the past financial year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], compared with 201011.
About an hour after the first robbery, two men ran into the Enfield Hotel,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one jumping the cashier counter, while the other armed with a doublebarrel shotgun threatened patrons.
They stole cash and then ran out the rear of the hotel into a waiting white Hyundai Excel sedan driven by a third person.
That car had been stolen from a West Lakes address earlier in the night and was involved in a petrol driveoff at the BP at Blair Athol, about 10 minutes before the robbery.
The car's registration is WBA818 and it is still missing.
One of the men was described as 182cm tall,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of slim build, with dark eyes and wearing a black hooded jumper, a red bandanna across his nose and mouth, black track pants and sneakers.
He spoke with a gruff Australian accent.
The second man, who was armed with the shotgun, was described as Aboriginal, 182cm tall, of slim build, with dark eyes, bushy eyebrows and light skin.
He wore a red tshirt underneath a black hooded jumper with the hood string pulled tight around his face and a black baseball cap underneath the hood, black track pants and white sneakers.
Both men had their jumper sleeves pulled over their hands.
During the Torrensville robbery two men, one armed with a screwdriver, broke into the Royal Hotel and demanded money from the manager, about 5.20am.
The manager was hit on the head and the men fled in a vehicle with his mobile phone and cash.
He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a minor head injury.
The offenders were described as Caucasian,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both about 183cm tall and of slim build. They were wearing black hooded tops and black Nike sneakers.
Mr Horne said he did not believe hotels were soft targets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thanks to significant security upgrades.
"Anyone who is prepared to rob with violence, whether that is to arm themselves from a stick to a knife to a shotgun, they really need to be taken out of the system because something will go wrong one day and there will be a terrible consequence," he said.
"People who are inclined to do this may perceive us as easy targets but the sensitivity to these sorts of issues have never been higher and the effort that has been put in in the past five or six years (with security upgrades) has never been greater."
