Ben Gordon set for Great Britain Olympics team,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Ben Gordon has confirmed his intention to play for Great Britain at the London Olympics this summer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The Detroit Pistons star,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who played for the United States at the 2003 Pan American Games, has been verbally committed to Chris Finch's team for the past few summers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but is yet to pull on a GB jersey.
He withdrew from the 2009 EuroBasket squad to concentrate on the Pistons having just signed as a free agent from Chicago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and then sat out last year's tournament to be with his wife for the birth of their child.
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the 28-year-old has insisted his commitment to play this year is firm.
The London-born Gordon said: "I am playing in the summer and I'm really excited about it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"I'm looking forward to the Olympics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I've got a lot of family there so it will be nice to see them and it will be a great competition with us really looking to be the surprise team,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"We're looking to win the gold medal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that's the ultimate goal.
"Although realistically we'll be aiming to win as many games as possible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It's hard to predict at this stage but we'll look to go out there and compete every night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
The United States head to London as defending champions and firm favourites, with Spain considered Europe's best hope of upsetting the all-star American squad.
Britain have two NBA players,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Gordon and his former team-mate in Chicago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Luol Deng,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has this season been named to the NBA All-Star team.
Team GB, who have two NBA players in Gordon and former Chicago team-mate Luol Deng, will face the Americans in a pre-Olympic warm-up game in Manchester on July 19.
