Do real Americans wear shoes indoors as portrayed in sitcom TV shows,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Based on the answers, it is acceptable to wear shoes indoors in most American homes. There are some exceptions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as families whose cultural heritage requires removing shoes indoors.
In their own home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], alone: It is not unusual for Americans to remove their shoes indoors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sometimes wearing slippers or "indoor shoes" but sometimes wearing no footwear at all.
With guests,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or visiting other homes: It may be expected that shoes will be worn for the duration of the visit. This will vary due to circumstances such as the formality of the event and the familiarity of the guests/hosts. In some areas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], weather (snow mud) and white carpets create the reverse expectation.
For those who say that "almost all" wear shoes in the house,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I like to see some stats backing that up.
I shocked at the assumption that only hippies take their shoes off,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that "almost all" wear shoes in the house.
In more rural areas I been in,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it seems farmers I known take their shoes off and those who aren involved in farming do not. Closer to urban areas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it seems people I known who are of a higher economic status take their shoes off,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while those who are more middle-class do not. There may be other factors here too,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as generation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], region,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], climate, cultural background, etc.
Of the six answers here,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it seems three prefer to take their shoes off and three prefer to leave them on (not that Quora is a true random sampling of the population). But I find it unfair to claim that one was significantly more common than the other without evidence.
