John Frazer
Kinnadoohy, Killadoon, Louisburgh
The death took place peacefully at his home on August 23, 2010,

John was son of the late Austin and Annie Frazer and is at his early 80s. He was born in the townland of Kinnadoohy and had the distinction of being the first baby born in County Mayo on January 1, 1929.
Truly among the grand old stock of the area, John would be a extremely popular figure in the local community and he enjoyed the affection and respect of who knew him. He was educated in the local national school in Killadoon. While very young, and like many of his generation,

John and Julia married on St Patrick's Day, March 17, 1962, in England. They lived there for a short while afterwards, but,

, although John is at gainful employment, the 'call of the wild' prompted him to come back the place to find survive the family farm at Kinnadoohy with his beloved Julia.
In subsequent years John applied himself with great husbandry to the development of their own farm but he was never too busy to provide some help to his neighbours and friends. Indeed, there is no better neighbour to be found through the community.
His passion from the land was ingrained and deep and he always had their own garden of vegetables and potatoes, all sown by hand using a well-edged spade. His love of animals was evident within the fine stock he ended up for that local mart each year.
John was a man who kept himself fit. He was a keen cyclist and often left the neighborhood young lads for dust after being challenged to a cycle race on the country roads around his home,

An earlier riser, he could be seen walking the White Strand at any hour, often coming back home with a decent rope or perhaps a piece of net salvaged in the sea. He would consider that 'a job well done'.
To him his townland area of Kinnadoohy would be a paradise and it is beauty was evident to any or all who called towards the home during his repose there.
Turf-cutting was a big part of John's life but to him it had been more like a hobby than work. He had not a problem throwing up 7 or 8 loads using the sléan and building them into a lovely neat stack at the conclusion of the summer.
John always enjoyed family celebrations and social gatherings,

John was very contented with his life that they lived fully every day. He would be a devoted husband and father who always put the needs of his family first. It was fitting he slipped peacefully from this world without an ache or perhaps a pain in the convenience of his own home.
The heat and respect which John enjoyed in the wider Louisburgh community was very much reflected within the many people who called to the family home and also the Church of the Holy Family, Killeen, to pay for their respects to him and express sympathy to his wife and family on their sad loss. Most of them had their own special memories of the jolly, witty and genial man who had touched their lives and also the lives of a lot of others.
Following a traditional wake in the family home removal was from his residence on Wednesday, August 25, to the Church from the Holy Family, Killeen,

The teachings in the Mass were read by John's daughter Ann and grandson Michael John, with the Prayers from the Faithful read by John (Jnr), Pauline, James Martin and Shauna. Gifts, symbolic of John's life and also the bread and wine were delivered to the altar by members of his family, Alice, Tina, Dylan, Nora, Mary Jo and Alison. His grandniece Shauna browse the narration describing the gifts as well as their meaning.
In the Mass homily Fr Mattie Long paid generous tribute to John for that wonderful Christian life he'd lived, for his devotion to his wife and family, his faith and his community.
In a poignant tribute at the end of Mass entitled 'Special Memories of Our Father' John's son James recalled many of the characteristics of his life. He paid tribute to him for his loyalty to his family and to his great spirit of helpfulness. He was a man of many skills and that he was always willing to make use of these for that good of others. James also paid tribute to his dad to be a good neighbour along with a friend to many. He referred to his great faith that they practiced in an exceedingly meaningful way in his everyday life and which was a great inspiration to others.
John will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Julia; sons, James and John (Jnr); daughters, Rosemary,
