Twiggy launches women's range for Marks Spencer
"We started talking about it 3 years ago," says the still-amazing-at-62 Twiggy. "We all agreed it had been a no-brainer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however it only agreed to be working up how they could put it. It began to get together at the conclusion of last year."
The starting point for the 43-piece collection was jackets. "I'm a skinny-jeans-and-jacket girl,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and so i said I'd like plenty of nice jackets - I love my jackets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she laughs. She does indeed: sequinned,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], velvet, tweed, tuxedo - you name it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she's designed it for M Plus, she's wearing a navy-blue blazer, stripy red-and-blue tee and skinny jeans from her label today. But she adds: "I couldn't just do clothes that only I love though - you need to think outside the box a little. We've done wider jeans and trousers. Dresses are a huge feature,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because I think normally a woman goes and buy just a little dress. It's just easy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], isn't it?" The line also includes scarves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], belts, bags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and shoes true to Twiggy's taste. "I can't walk in high heels,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so my shoes tend to be brogues, sneakers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sandals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], little pumps. I can wear things i call 'court shoes': they're about 2 ½ inches high and I can walk inside them."
People who pooh-pooh Twiggy as someone who's just lending her name to some collection that has been ghost-designed should reconsider: she's a skilled seamstress who makes her own clothes, and already has two clothing lines under her belt,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including one she designed just for a shopping channel in america,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which, according to her, was "their most successful new launch two years ago."
Then there's the detail she adopts. "I like narrow dresses, however i can't stand them when they are too tight around the middle. Most of my dresses have some kind of gathering in front that is just helpful around that tummy area,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she says talking about the LK Bennett-ish, Duchess of Cambridge-worthy printed jersey wrap dresses. "I'm not only lending my name to those, I'm completely involved."

She's adamant that she did not have a particular woman in your mind when making. "I don't wish to [just position the collection for older women]. Personally i think very strongly that it's an ageless range. I dispise it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and it is become an obsession […] putting ages on things. If the 18-year-old really wants to buy a set of these skinny jeans," she says,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gesturing to her own pair, " why don't she? Or if the 80-year-old woman really wants to buy that sequinned jacket,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then great, why don't you? I think it's for everybody. So I always say the range comes from 18 to 80."
She was also adamant the range be affordable; pieces begin with £12.50 for a T-shirt to £79 for a jacket. "I'm a high-street shopper,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], always have been. This is exactly why I'm thrilled to do this range with M because I've always said that fashion ought to be affordable." |
