Freedom from Parkinson on dance floor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Just like she does every four hours,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lynne Raider,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 69,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], takes medication to handle Parkinson's disease in her home on Friday Aug. 10,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2012 in Bay area,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Calif.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Raider continues to be participating in a dance class with other Parkinson's disease patients for the past two years. Once a month she and 18-20 people coping with the condition dance together. She said the advantages have been amazing. "It has lightened my thoughts and given me another tool to help manage this ailment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Raider.

Just like she does every 4 hours,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lynne Raider,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 69,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], takes.
As a teenager,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], learned ballet and tap-danced for fun. Decades later,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she has put on her dancing shoes once again - this time to alleviate the signs of Parkinson's disease. For nearly 2 yrs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Raider has attended a category in Bay area that guides individuals with Parkinson's through modern dance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ballet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], tap,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], jazz and social dancing. Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects motor control and stiffens Raider's limbs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but she says she finds freedom on the dance floor.
Classes are held the first Thursday of each and every month at the at 128 10th St,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Suggested donation is $15,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I attended that because the first one and went head over heels,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
How it operates: Dancing is not required. It's much more about movement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], just using your body. You don't have to perform. It's not necessary to really understand modern versus classical or anything. It's a safe environment just to be able to follow these steps plus some choreography that's been deemed safe and good for people who have the sorts of problems we do in muscles and nerves.
Types of steps: Many are from a seated position,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], doing upper-body movements,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], doing a bit of steps from the chair,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like marching steps,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and also doing some such as the following the ballet movements - first,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], second,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], third and fourth position - but not doing them the same way as professional people in ballet.
Why you like it: It's given me an opportunity to do some movement/dance that I might possibly not have ever tried again and feel safe and accomplished. I've done a few things i might have been a bit reluctant to approach. I know I possibly could do this in class; therefore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I possibly could certainly do this climbing up this flight of stairs I have in the house. |
