Democrat wants Bond's movie-style gun to be reality
WASHINGTON, May 16 () -- A House Democrat has proposed gun control legislation he says was inspired by the latest James Bond movie, "Skyfall."Rep. John Tierney, D-Mass., says his bill would encourage the development of weapons that could be fired only by their owners,Jimmy Choo Boots Sale, The Hill reported Thursday. In a statement, Tierney says that in the movie the super-spy "escapes death when his handgun, which is equipped with technology that recognizes him as its owner, becomes inoperable when it gets in the wrong hands."Tierney adds that the technology isn't movie make-believe, "it's a reality."His bill, the Personalized Handgun Safety Act, HB 2005, would prevent accidental deaths when a child gets hold a gun, Tierney said. The bill calls for guns made in the United States to be built with the identification technology within two years after it becomes law. Older guns would have to be retrofitted with the technology within three years.Gun makers who didn't install the technology could be held liable. The technology would be developed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The bill is supported by the Children's Defense Fund Action Council and co-sponsored by 13 Democrats in the House, including five Democratic members from Massachusetts. |
