Purging makes life richer for minimalists,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
They call themselves "the minimalists,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," but a more apt title may be "the meaningfulists."
Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who chucked their corporate jobs and six-figure salaries towards simpler yet richer lives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], don't preach about eliminating basically six items from your wardrobe or squeezing your family into a 300-square-foot home. They are not above smartphones or ordering an overpriced mango bubble tea.
Theirs is really a more holistic minimalism that challenges people to weed out the superfluous and spend more time on what's important,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to appear critically at their health, relationships,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], careers and belongings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and get: What value does this cupcake/ happy hour/promotion/new pair of shoes really add to my life?
"It isn't about depriving ourselves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Nicodemus said. "It's about living more intentionally."
The buddies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], both former telecom professionals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], spent their 20s chasing the traditional trappings of success - high salaries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], suburban homes, nice cars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exotic vacations - but were left feeling empty.
Only after Fields Millburn's mom died,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and suddenly life felt short and precious, did the buddies resolve to yank themselves off the hamster wheel. They provided a list of all the "anchors" holding them back - everything from unhealthy relationships to debt to cable bills - and started eliminating them so that they could target the pursuits and people each felt most enthusiastic about.
For Nicodemus, that meant holding a "packing party" in the 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000-square-foot condo. He packed everything as if he were moving,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and over the following 3 weeks unpacked just those things he needed. At the conclusion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 80 per cent of his stuff remained in boxes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all of which he donated,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sold or trashed. |
