Among the 'Girls' in the audience is a 27-year veteran of the police force of Orlando,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Florida, named Val Demings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a janitor's daughter who rose from the K-9 patrol to become that city's first female chief.
"Under her bold and aggressive leadership,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thousands of guns were removed from Orlando's streets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and communities became safer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Demings's website boasts. Now she is running for Congress against an anti-abortion Republican who won the seat by a landslide in 2010.
"Nothing could scare me,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Demings answers when I ask her if she is afraid that some lunatic could stroll up to her at a campaign rally and Glock her through the head.
Yet even the woman who lifted thousands of firearms from the denizens of Disneyville isn't against guns at all.
"The effort is not to take guns out of the hands of responsible people who want to protect their homes and their families,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she says.
