Brad Friedel won't give up jersey to Hugo Lloris,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
And the veteran 41-year-old is reluctant to relinquish his position between the sticks.
'Right now I believe the shirt is mine to lose,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I believe the manager came out and said that. If that the case then great,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],' Friedel told Sky Sports.
'I will turn up every day and work as hard as I can. I will keep as fit as I possibly can,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hopefully get selected to play and hopefully do as well as I can.'
With Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes also on the books, Tottenham are not short of goalkeepers to chose from.
'It great to have competition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],' Friedel added.
'Hugo Lloris is France No.1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he gonna want to play,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I gonna want to play,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and so are Carlo and Heurelho.'
The American also admits he is aware he was brought into the club as temporary measure.
'When
I signed for Tottenham, I signed as a stop-gap while Tottenham looked
for a long-term goalkeeper. Tottenham deserve a long-term goalkeeper,'
he continued,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Won't go quietly: Brad Friedel was in fine form for Tottenham against Norwich
'I want to play, I always wanted to play, I don sign contracts not to play. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would never demean the manager by spitting my dummy out if I wasn playing.
'We are all contracted to Tottenham Hotspur and if they ask me to be a No.1 [or a No.2], I do that to the best of my ability.
'Hugo Lloris is going to be a team-mate, not an enemy.
'It is a difficult position to have four goalkeepers of our quality at the club. Saying that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hopefully there be 50-odd games to play this season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is a lot of games to go around.'
They have different styles of keeping. Brad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], although a great shot stopper, is more of the 'old school' where he stays near his line, and this leads to a virtual paddock between him and the back four. I'm led to believe AVB wants to play the squeeze with a high line and therefore is looking for more of a 'sweeper keeper'. Enter Lloris.
Although you can't blame Brad for the goals against WBA and Norwich,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you look at the play preceding the goals, had he controlled his area and come and claimed balls like I hope Lloris will,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then they would not have been scored.
